Technology Benefits

In lighting applications, Indice’s power control technology provides compatibility for energy efficient lighting technologies with current mains voltage (110/230VAC) and low voltage (12VAC) infrastructure. CFL, CCFL and LED lighting sources offer exciting potential for general and designer lighting, but alone they are not compatible with existing dimmers and magnetic or electronic transformers. Additionally, to meet the long life specified by the manufacturer, they have to be tightly regulated for operational temperature and power.

Power inefficiencies

Carbon emission awareness has brought intense scrutiny of existing power generation and lighting technologies. Tungsten filament and halogen lights have been identified as one of the most prolific and offensive lighting sources in use today. Not only are they very inefficient consumers of power, they operate at extreme temperatures and are a major cause of fires in residential and commercial buildings. The recognition of these facts has lead to legislation in Australia and California (others pending) restricting the use of these lighting products, particularly halogen downlights.

Indice power chip benefits

Replacing 12VAC halogens has, until now, required the removal or modification of 12VAC infrastructure (eg transformers and dimmers), which poses both a technical and cost barrier. Indice’s micro controller removes the need for expensive and difficult infrastructure modifications:

Typically requiring a linear load of 20Watts or more, high efficiency replacements such as CFL and LED either will not operate, or are destroyed when connected to normal electronic transformers. Indice provides a buffer which is compatible with electronic transformers, whilst driving the luminaire within manufacturers specification, resulting in plug-and-play compatibility.

Whilst most halogen replacements may operate with magnetic transformers, dimmers either cause flickering or harm the product. Indice’s power control system, however, protects the luminaire, driving it within manufacturer specifications.

The Indice power control system allows dimming of LED and fluorescent (CFL / CCFL) technology on both mains voltage (110V/220V) and low voltage (12V) systems with both electronic and magnetic transformers

The Indice power control system offers complete monitoring of power through the luminaire to ensure it operates within the specified voltage, current and temperature range. This ensures optimal efficacy for any given luminaire technology (Fluorescent, LED, CFL and CCFL) and thereby ensures maximum product lifespan through minimised wear and tear.

Indice’s unique benefits translate directly into savings for the consumer – not only at the point of installation (avoided electrical and infrastructure modification costs) but also throughout the lifespan of the globe (through energy efficiency savings).
