Traditional halogen lights are also a type of incandescent light and are also known a “low voltage” lights as they have transformers fitted to convert from the standard 240 volts to 12 volts. This does not mean that they consume low amounts of electricity. Halogens are considered an energy intensive lighting option. One incandescent or fluorescent light bulb may need several halogen downlights to achieve the same evenly distributed lighting in a room. (Most low voltage halogen globes used as downlights consume 50 watts each and an additional 15 watts for the transformer).
Fast facts
- A 50W halogen downlight when used for 3 hours a day will cost around $10 a year to run. Let’s say you had a room with 8 halogen downlights and ran them for 8 hours each day, it would cost you over $200 every year!
- Most halogen lights have a narrow light beam, many more are need to effectively light a room than when using other forms of lighting. A large proportion of the energy consumed by halogen lighting is actually lost in the form of heat.
- The Indice CCFL downlight replacement consumers less than 7 Watts, is brighter than an traditional halogen downlight, on average lasts 6 times longer than traditional halogens, is 7 times cooler (significant less risk of fire hazard) and has a wider colour range.

Indice Ecotech as a direct halogen 12V lamp replacement can in most cases be installed by the consumer as it is as simple and easy to replace as a MR16 halogen lamp. It overcomes consumer resistance to change by eliminating the need to discard an often significant investment in existing downlight fittings, electrical infrastructure, transformers and dimmers.
Unlike alternative eco friendly lamps, Indice Ecotech eliminates the need for costly professional installation and electrical infrastructure changes.
Indice Ecotech is certified electrically by a NATA accredited test laboratory to be sold in Australia and meets the requirements internationally for most major markets.
Indice Ecotech light output and power consumption have been verified by a NATA accredited independent test laboratory
Indice Ecotech is a research and development company and does not provide direct retail sales of its products.
